Painted house and doors

Remember when I ripped down all the ivy that covered the front of our house?  No?  Is it because I never posted a picture of the house from that angle with all the ivy all over it, and now I can't seem to find one?  Hmm.

Well, here is a picture of the side of the house with all the ivy torn down, in need of painting.

Last year we also tore down the termite riddled patio cover in the back, which left a giant stripe of beige stucco.

We finally painted the house.

We also painted the front doors from hunter green to Behr's Red Delicious.  We used a paint with primer, and it was horrendous.  That is 9 coats on that door.   If you sell a product that says "only takes two coats, even red" and then it takes 9 coats, expect me to show up on your doorstep demanding my money back.

The house is looking very fresh and clean and lovely.

  1. Yes it is. :-) You are on a home improvement tear. Lately, every time I visit here I feel like a big ol' lazy slacker.

    1. Yes, I have been on a home improvement bender, but only because I'm trying to get the house ready to put on the market. I am ready to quit home improvement, honestly. I would prefer to spend my time in a bookshop with a nice cup of tea. :-) Soon, I hope!

  2. Oh, I feel your pain on the 9 coats of red! Many years ago, I colour-blocked our sons' room - one wall blue, one green, one orange, one red. The red took 8 coats, and even then, it didn't look as good as I wanted it to in the areas where I cut in around the edges. I swore never again, but then when we moved here four years ago and my youngest asked for a red wall in his room I didn't have the heart to say no (something to do with mother-guilt, taking him from the only home he'd ever known, yada yada). Anyway, this time I used Benjamin Moore Aura, and unbelievably - it took only TWO coats! So if you ever feel the urge to paint something red again, go for the Aura paint; it was well worth the extra money.

The house looks fantastic, and the red doors do look very sharp!

    1. My sister said the same thing about the Benjamin Moore Aura paint--I'll have to try that next time.

  3. I don't think I've ever seen your house from the outside. Your paint job looks fantastic and I am sorry to hear about the paint. Ball Behr and tell them. I'd like to know if their customer service is as good as they tell us it is.

    1. We took the paint back to Home Depot after five coats, and they gave us our money back. It still took an additional 4 coats of Dunn Edwards color matched paint with primer.
