Remember that changing table that I painted five coats on, and it looked terrible?
Four more coats and it is finally finished. After the five coats of Sherwin Willaims Loyal Blue, I switched over to Gloss Royal Blue Valspar Latex Enamel, and I poured a wee bit of gloss black into it to darken the blue, as it was a bit too bright. I can't say that either paint was very good, as this changing table has nine coats on it to get it this color. Actually eleven coats, as I did a first coat, realized I need a tinted primer, primed it, then painted five coats, gave up in disgust, switched to a different paint, and painted four more coats. I persevered only because I had no desire to spend any more money on paint for this piece.
I added some lion head ring pulls I already owned, and ordered a few more (the large) to match.
I am happy with the end result.
It could use a small lamp, and I freely admit that styling is not my bag, baby. The yellow head was from, where else, the garage, and I spraypainted it yellow. The glass vase is full of rocks and shells we have collected from various vacation spots around the world. The red frame has the word LOVE sharpied in it, simply because at the moment I don't have a picture small enough to put in it.
Edited to add: I'm linking up to Pancakes and French Fries William Morris Project. I did not write this in a particularly William Morris fashion, but my William Morris theme is using what you have, even if it takes you eleven tries. Also linked up to Primitive and Proper.

It looks fantastic..I love the color!
ReplyDelete11 coats!!! That's determination, my friend. I probably would have abandoned the table to my stock of unfinished projects in the garage. Love the lionshead pulls too.
ReplyDeleteit looks phenomena! loads of sweat and paint, but freaking awesome in the end.
ReplyDeleteYay, it's done! I love the color and so glad you ordered more lion heads. It looks like you bought it at a store. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! That is one heartstopping colour--and it looks freaking fantastic. Worth the eleven coats.
ReplyDelete(Personally, I would die before I completed eleven coats.) Those lion head pulls are seriously chic. Brings the whole thing to another level.
My hat is off to you!
I'm obsessed with the lion pulls! I just got 2 rast dressers to use as bedside tables. Do you think the small ones would work since it's not as prominent piece? I am thinking red or coral or pink for the rast dressers with those awesome gold lion pulls! better yet lion was my sorority's mascot!
ReplyDeleteThe blue looks great, and the yellow Buddha head makes it all pop. I'd either add 2 more small items, or leave it with just the 3 you have. Looking good!
ReplyDeleteYour perseverance has paid off. It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat's one fabulous way to glam up an old changing table! The lions totally make the piece, and the color is beautiful. A good reminder that sometimes it's worth experimenting with mixing paint before running out to buy a different color.
ReplyDeletelove it!
ReplyDeleteIn the end it was worth all that work!
ReplyDeleteWhat is that mirror? I love it. I also absolutely love the color and lion pulls. And now in turn, you. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the compliments :-)
ReplyDeleteEKM--I'd tape off the measurements of the lion head on the rast dresser to see which size works better.
Alice--the peacock mirror is a discontinued item from Pier One, although I believe ZGallerie is now carrying something similar.
Ah, I think it's very William Morris-y. Making it beautiful, right? :-) And you have way more persistence than me! Like the color a lot.
