We have a lemon tree in our backyard. It has...flowered? Fruited? Needs to be harvested? I have approximately one million lemons. If you have any recipes that use many many lemons and doesn't involve seafood, I'm all ears.

One of my prized possessions that I don't have a spot for in this house is a beautiful palimpore roman shade from Pottery Barn. I don't recall the name of the fabric, which has since been discontinued, but it was a Josef Frank knock-off, which was itself a Tree of Life knock-off.
ANYWAYS, one day I am perusing my local craigslist, when I come across this:
A whole chair in one of my favorite fabrics! I have a roman shade to match it! And its only $225!
I have NOWHERE to put this chair. Nowhere. Except my garage. Do I buy a chair I have nowhere to put, because I will certainly put it somewhere in the next house next year, or do I just kiss it goodbye?
I have a lot of other things I'd like to buy (lamps, sofa, dining chairs). This would be a long-view purchase. Actually, I've been watching the ad for a few weeks now, it might not even be available anymore. But I LOVE IT.

Well, I would buy it. And then maybe regret it, but I would buy it. I am able to fairly easily let go of things that don't work now if they are things that I'm pretty sure I can find (in some similar form) later. But you know you're never gonna get another stab at a chair like this. And you will probably always kick yourself a little if you don't. You can always sell it yourself later...
ReplyDelete(I'm that friend you probably didn't want to have in high school, for whatever that's worth. You know, not the one who instigated shenanigans, but the one who always went along with them.)
haha! I will probably kick myself if I don't get it. I can feel myself talking myself into it...
DeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteI am trying desperately to get rid of things and I am the friend that always asks "do you need it?, where will you put it", but once in a hundred times, I will say - you love it - just buy it. So, I say to you "just buy it". You will find somewhere to put it and be happy every time you sit in it and read. I so hope it is still there for you
Kind Regards
Cathy
I DO love it...I just need a storage shed for unused furniture...
DeleteTo me, $225 is a lot to spend on something I can't use now and won't necessarily be able to use in the future. But, if you really love it, and think there's a way to make it work now, then yes, get it :)
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, $225 is a lot of money for any purchase, especially one you can't use for a year or more! It is a large part of what is holding me back--if it were listed for $75 I probably would have jumped on it. But, I do like to haggle, I wouldn't offer full price.
DeleteGet the chair. Put another one in the garage. About lemons--how about the obvious? Lemon pudding. Lemon meringue pie. Lemon shortbread. Lemon sauce. I LOVE lemon in gingerale--even a Coke. Let your kids set up a fresh squeezed lemonade stand.
ReplyDeleteWe've been drinking tons of lemonade! I have plans for lemon muffins, and want to try my hand at lemon curd and candied lemon peels.
