William Morris: jewelry edition (I pity the fool!)

Today I was at Ikea when I saw a corkboard for $6 and thought, aha! William Morris project!

In our last house, I bought some silverware organizers and used them to organize my jewelry in the top drawer of my dresser.  When we moved, I wrapped the silverware organizers in saranwrap and packed them in a bin.  Flash forward two months, my silverware organizers are still wrapped in saranwrap (it was a lot of saranwrap).

I hung the corkboard in my walk in closet.  I had a choice between hanging low, where I could reach them, but so could the Princess, or hanging high, where the Princess couldn't reach but neither could I.  I went with high.

I used thumbtacks in the corkboard to hang my necklaces.

In looking at this, I see that I have a lot of aqua and red jewelry.   I am also fond of glass necklaces.

I weeded out some of the stuff that I no longer wear or like.  The one necklace remaining that I am unsure of is the gold link chain.  A former colleague had a similar necklace, and I liked it so much on her that I went and bought one too.  I don't like it quite as much on me.

I was lecturing my husband when he took this picture, thus my face has that lecturing expression.

I fear that I look like Mr. T when I wear it.

Keep it? Let Princess play with it?  Wear it with four more gold chains?

I'm linking up to Pancakes and French Fries' William Morris Project.

  3. Keep that necklace!!

You could also wear it with the little black square one on the 8th thumbtack from the left.

  4. I like the necklace. It doesn't remind me of Mr. T at all.

  5. Hi there! Glad to meet you! I think that that particular gold chain necklace is simply the wrong length for you.

Oddly enough, I've been thinking of doing something just like this for my jeellry. As it is now, stuffed away in a box, I never remember to wear it.

  6. I like it but then again I would never trust me for fashion advice.

  7. I like the necklace--maybe it would look better if you shortened it a bit.

  8. My rule of thumb is: If you have to ask, then that means you already know the answer. Give it to your daughter - she would love it and probably enjoy it more than you do at the moment. When she's finished with it - pass it on. You're going to be happier/feel more confident if you're wearing a necklace that you love and/or you're not wondering if it's a mistake to be wearing it.

On a secondary note - I have about four or five "go to" necklaces that I wear, and sometimes I wonder why I keep all the others that I rarely wear. BUT...I just can't seem to let them go. Am I the only one who has this problem?

  9. I love the necklace (and the top - very pretty!) and your ponytail. No Mr. T vibe whatsoever.

  10. Agree that if you think it's not right, it isn't. Even if it is--because the whole time you're wearing it, you're thinking: This isn't right. Which is why you hardly ever wear it. (But I agree with others that it might just be the length.)

  11. I like the necklace, but agree that if you don't feel comfortable in it, perhaps it's time to go. I like the corkboard, but think it could use a coat (or 12?) of paint. ;)

  12. I LOVE the necklace on you- it looks great! (especially with thet blue top) I like the idea of layering it with a different style necklace too!!

  14. It's a great necklace - it's just being worn with the wrong shirt is all. Wear it with a closed-neck shirt - like a mock turtleneck. Or like a um ... a shirt all one color that has NO embellishments at all, either in color or sewing, and has a round neck. V-neck is wrong for that necklace.

  15. I think it's fantastic (and I also love that dress color on you), though I might pair the necklace with a different dress? Those long, drapey necklaces tend to work best with a higher neckline - it can get a bit Cleavage Lane otherwise (a road about which I personally know nothing, but I hear it's nice ;-).

  16. Oh, I really like the idea of covering the cork board with fabric. And I think that necklace is wildly popular right now. Much more current than anything I own.

  17. 'Wear it with four more gold chains' I think I spit out my coffee when I read that - you crack me up! I say let Princess play with it. If you don't like it now you won't like it ever. That's my two cents.
