delicious Italian lemon cake

Last year when we went to Italy, Nonna's neighbor dropped off the most delicious lemon cake.  It was fabulous and I've been dreaming of it for a year.  A few months ago my inlaws went back to Italy, and I asked if they could get the recipe from the neighbor.

They brought back the recipe, but I guess none of you will make it since it uses two Italian products not widely found here. But I have found the products on the internets and ordered a ton of them. We try to have dinner with the inlaws at least once a month, and I've been making this lemon cake for dessert.

The two Italian ingredients are Lievito Pane degli Angeli (its some kind of yeast product with what seems like a lot of vanilla flavoring), and aroma millefiori (essence of flowers).

You'll need:

3 cups of flour
6 eggs
2 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter
1 cup of milk
1 lemon, juiced and peel grated
1 tube of aroma millefiori
1 packet (2 tablespoons) of Lievito Pane degli Angeli

Mix it all together and pout into a 12 cup Bundt pan.  The instructions say to bake at 375 for one hour, but in my oven it is done after 40 to 45 minutes.

It doesn't last long around here:

  2. What Anonymous said! But seriously, I'm going to track down those ingredients & try this the next time my Italian in-laws are over. They don't care for the diabetes-inducing desserts I usually prefer, so I think this will be more up their alley and also something I'd like.
